EXECUTIVE CHEF OSCAR MARTINEZ
Oscar Martinez knew at the young age of 14 that he wanted to become a chef. Watching his mother cook for the family is what drew him to the culinary world and what he says inspired him to become the person he is today. Chef Martinez was formally trained at The New York Restaurant School, now known as The Art Institute of New York City, which laid a strong foundation for him to build his career.
Martinez has worked all angles of the kitchen. He landed his first notable position at Windows of the World. Martinez began his three-year stint with the historic restaurant as a line cook, but quickly moved up the ladder to become sous chef under renowned Chef Michael Lomonaco. Martinez eventually moved on to become the chef de cuisine under the famed Chef Craig Cuponi at Aretsky’s Patroon, followed by a year-and-a-half as chef de cuisine at Michael Jordan’s, The Steakhouse under the acclaimed Chef David Walzog. After many years of observation, he took the helm as Executive Chef at New York’s oldest steakhouse, The Old Homestead. Over twelve successful years at the New York City staple, Martinez perfected the craft of grilling, expanded his knowledge of steak and fueled his passion for the steakhouse atmosphere. After he parted ways with “the city” and headed towards the suburbs, he found a new steakhouse under development, The BBG. Martinez was a key component in launching and developing the brand in Williston Park to become one of Newsday’s Top 100 restaurants. at DOMA Land + Sea is his latest venture and showcases all his skills under one roof.
Outside of the restaurant, Chef Martinez enjoys deep-sea fishing, coaching football and soccer, and spending time with his family. He’s the proud father of three and currently resides on Long Island with his wife and kids.
